<p>Today I came across some unfortunate news from New Hampshire: Eric Eliason, of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Mortgage Consultants (DHHMC), was arrested and accused of fraudulent mortgage practices. </p>
<p>This came as a surprise to me, as I am sure it does for many members of the Deaf community in New England. I know this is a very difficult time for everyone who is involved.</p>
<p>As people&#8217;s curiosity about the matter has grown, however, questions arose when folks visited DHHMC&#8217;s web page and found my face on the welcome video. </p>
<p>For those who were wondering, I wanted to take a moment and clarify by saying that I am simply a performing artist and do not work for DHHMC or endorse its services. I was independently contracted over a year ago to make the videos and am not part of the business.</p>
<p>I know this is a tough time for everyone involved in the matter and hope that this addresses any concerns others may have.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Good afternoon, folks.</p>
<p>This morning, I realized that we started off this year with a brand new African American President and that I will be starting off my first 2009 show at a <a href="http://www.dcabda.org/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=5&#038;Itemid=6">District of Columbia Area Black Deaf Advocates</a> fundraiser event in Fredrick, Maryland! I couldn&#8217;t think of a better event to kick off 2009 than this. As we all know, African Americans have waited a long time to witness such change like this and I look forward to celebrate with members of DCABDA on February 6th, 2009 and to help bring change that we need within our Black Deaf community. For more information about the event, please take a look at my <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2009/01/20/fredrick-md/">calendar.</a> <span id="more-470"></span></p>
<p>While musing about new beginnings that 2009 will bring, I recognized that this year marks my 5th year running The Rosa Lee show as well as my last. Yes, that&#8217;s right&#8230; I have decided to hang up my red shoes and focus on other projects that <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/about-us/damon-timm/">Damon</a> and I have been working on. I will, of course, continue to create videos and hope to release another DVD similar to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092469/">Tracy Ullman&#8217;s Show</a>, doing spoofs like <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2006/08/18/my-deaf-lady/">My Deaf Lady</a> and so on. All in all, I look forward to new beginnings and to continue to expand my work as an artist. </p>
<p>Finally, on a personal level, this year is also the year that I am getting married. This also means that 2009 will be my first year as Mrs. Timm. Now, that&#8217;s gonna take a while for me to adjust after being a Gallimore for 32 years. :)</p>
<p>I wish you a very happy New Year and I&#8217;ll be seeing you around.</p>
<p>Hugs<br />
Rosa Lee</p>

<p>Cry Me a River by Justin Timberlake<br />
Translated by Rosa Lee</p>
<p>Note: The translation is not the same as the lyrics.</p>
<p>Lyrics are below:<span id="more-468"></span></p>
<p>&#8220;Cry Me A River&#8221;</p>
<p>You were my sun<br />
You were my earth<br />
But you didn&#8217;t know all the ways I loved you, no<br />
So you took a chance<br />
And made other plans<br />
But I bet you didn&#8217;t think that they would come crashing down, no</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to say, what you did,<br />
I already know, I found out from him<br />
Now there&#8217;s just no chance, for you and me, there&#8217;ll never be<br />
And don&#8217;t it make you sad about it</p>
<p>You told me you loved me<br />
Why did you leave me, all alone<br />
Now you tell me you need me<br />
When you call me, on the phone<br />
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused<br />
With some other guy<br />
Your bridges were burned, and now it&#8217;s your turn<br />
To cry, cry me a river<br />
Cry me a river-er<br />
Cry me a river<br />
Cry me a river-er, yea yea</p>
<p>I know that they say<br />
That somethings are better left unsaid<br />
It wasn&#8217;t like you only talked to him and you know it<br />
(Don&#8217;t act like you don&#8217;t know it)<br />
All of these things people told me<br />
Keep messing with my head<br />
(Messing with my head)<br />
You should&#8217;ve picked honesty<br />
Then you may not have blown it<br />
(Yea..)</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to say, what you did,<br />
(Don&#8217;t have to say, what you did)<br />
I already know, I found out from him<br />
(I already know, uh)<br />
Now there&#8217;s just no chance, for you and me, there&#8217;ll never be<br />
(No chance, you and me)<br />
And don&#8217;t it make you sad about it</p>
<p>You told me you loved me<br />
Why did you leave me, all alone<br />
(All alone)<br />
Now you tell me you need me<br />
When you call me, on the phone<br />
(When you call me on the phone)<br />
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused<br />
With some other guy<br />
(I&#8217;m not like them baby)<br />
Your bridges were burned, and now it&#8217;s your turn<br />
(It&#8217;s your turn)<br />
To cry, cry me a river<br />
(Go on and just)<br />
Cry me a river-er<br />
(Go on and just)<br />
Cry me a river<br />
(Baby go on and just)<br />
Cry me a river-er, yea yea</p>
<p>Oh<br />
(Oh)<br />
The damage is done<br />
So I guess I be leaving<br />
Oh<br />
(Oh)<br />
The damage is done<br />
So I guess I be leaving<br />
Oh<br />
(Oh)<br />
The damage is done<br />
So I guess I be leaving<br />
Oh<br />
(Oh)<br />
The damage is done<br />
So I guess I be&#8230; leaving</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Rosa Lee Show had its first mini-tour in the state of Indiana/Kentucky last week.  Some of you may know that Indiana is a state that holds dear to my heart.  It was where I spent most of my youth living as a student at <a href="http://www.deafhoosiers.com/">Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD)</a>. It is also a state where my mother was born and raised.  Both of my parents were classmates at ISD as well as my older brother and I. I was also reminded by my grandparents&#8217; former students living in Fort Wayne that my grandparents also worked as a teacher at ISD before moving down south (Florida). It was definitely a treat to revisit my old stomping grounds and to reunite with my old friends. <span id="more-431"></span></p>
<p>The tour was organized by <a href="http://www.indianaassociationdeaf.org/">Indiana Association of the Deaf </a> and it was sponsored by <a href="http://www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_791q54">InTRAC</a> and <a href="https://www.hovrs.com/VRS_SSL/hovrs.aspx">Purple (formerly known as HOVRS).</a> For each city that we toured, all the profits would go to local deaf youth programs such as <a href="http://www.geocities.com/missdeafindiana@sbcglobal.net/MDI2"> Miss Deaf Indiana,</a> <a href="http://www.teammdo.org/index.html">Mini-deaf Olympics,</a> <a href="http://www.nad.org/site/pp.asp?c=foINKQMBF&amp;b=103762">Youth Leadership Camp,</a> and so on. I was honored to do five shows within four days, touring through the cities of Fort Wayne, Mishawaka, Louisville (KY), and Indianapolis.  Although it was exhausting and hectic (not to mention, freezing cold!), it was a lot of fun.</p>
<p>Below are some pictures taken while I was there. Enjoy.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Wanted to take a moment to point out some additional movement to support captioning on the web: just read <a href="http://www.linux.com/feature/149988">an article</a> over at <a href="http://linux.com">linux.com</a> about a <a href="http://lists.xiph.org/mailman/subscribe/accessibility">new mailing list</a> and effort to bring captioning support to the free video codec <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theora">Theora</a> (which will be natively supported by Firefox in <a href="http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/07/31/1752206">version 3.1</a>).</p>
<p>This is important because Theora is an open-source (free!) video codec and having organizations <a href="<a href="https://wiki.mozilla.org/Accessibility/Video_Accessibility">such as Mozilla</a> (who support Firefox) and websites like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/">wikipedia.org</a> use this format to display videos with captions is a terrific step!</p>
<p>So, we joined the <a href="http://lists.xiph.org/mailman/subscribe/accessibility">new mailing list</a> and hope you will too &#8212; we need to let the folks know that these efforts are important to us. As others have pointed out, sites like <a href="http://hulu.com">hulu</a> and <a href="http://youtube.com">youtube</a> are beginning to support/offer captions &#8230; let&#8217;s keep the ball rolling and let folks know that captions are important to everyone!</p>
<p>&#8211; Damon</p>
<p>PS: last month we added captions to all our videos (<a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2006/08/18/my-deaf-lady/">My Deaf Lady</a>, <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2006/09/24/noybtv-season-one/">NOYBTV: Season One</a>, <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2008/09/24/all-i-want/">All I Want</a>, and the <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2008/09/24/kondima-demo/">Kondima Demo</a>) and we subtitled the <a href="http://rosaleeshow.com/shop/">DVD</a> (all by our self!) so we know it takes a bit of extra work, but it&#8217;s worth it!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last Friday, I did a show at <a href="http://www.lexnyc.com">Lexington School for the Deaf</a> at Jackson Heights, NY.  Instead of flying across the country like I usually do, we just simply drove up to New York and then return back on the same day.  Definitely a nice change for us.  As for the show, I had a wonderful time performing in front of middle and high school students. They&#8217;re wonderful audience.   I also had an opportunity to perform on the same stage that was used during <a href="http://deafidol.deafnation.com/">Deaf Idol</a>.  Their auditorium is a top-notch&#8230; superior bass and lighting system.  Definitely a deaf-friendly space!  Here are some pictures of the show.  Enjoy.<span id="more-327"></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Greetings Folks!</p>
<p>Yep, we just upgraded our website! I know it has been a longggg overdue but I hope its worth the wait.  Kudos to <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/about-us/damon-timm">Damon Timm</a> for his hard work, developing this site. There are few new additions such as enabling video comments, new video previews and overall usability.</p>
<p>Since my last post, I did quite a few shows. One was held at <a href="http://www.dbcusa.org">Deaf Bilingual Coalition</a> conference in Wisconsin, the other at <a href="http://www.kcdhh.ky.gov/deafestival/index.html">Kentucky Deaf Arts Festival,</a> and the most recent, <a href="http://www.deafartsfestival.org">Deaf Arts Festival</a> in Michigan. Below are the pictures we took during our time there. I had a lot of fun getting to know my fellow performing artists as well as making new friends. <span id="more-273"></span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hey Everyone,</p>
<p>You may have seen the news recently that Netflix was releasing a $99 set-top box that allows subscribers, at no extra charge, to view on-demand movies on their televisions. However, if you are a Netflix user and interested in watching streaming video on your computer or television you may be dismayed to find that there is no captioning or subtitles available for this service.<span id="more-212"></span></p>
<p>As the industry turns towards a more digital-streaming-media approach, we need to speak up and let the industry know that closed captioning and subtitles are important to us, our friends, and family.</p>
<p><strong>Tell Netflix How You Feel</strong></p>
<p>If captions are important to you, make your opinion known. Place a quick call to Roku (the manufacturer of the new set-top box) and Netflix and let them know how you feel. </p>
<p>Call: 888-600-7658 (Roku)<br />
Call: 888-638-3549 (Netflix)</p>
<p>In both cases, you will probably want to have your customer number (found at the bottom of the page) ready. If you are not a customer, you could call and say you WOULD be one if only they offered captions on streaming video.</p>
<p><strong>Netflix Isn&#8217;t Alone</strong></p>
<p>Netflix is the not the only company or product ignoring this important feature. Look at your your XBox 360, PlayStation 3, iPhone, and AppleTV to see if captions are supported for all the video offered. You&#8217;ll most likely find it isn&#8217;t widely supported.</p>
<p>In addition to streaming video over the internet, basic HD Video is posing another barrier to accessing closed captions: HDMI &#038; Component Video connections won&#8217;t transmit closed caption data, so your television can&#8217;t convert the signal (it has to be done by the Blu-Ray Player or HD Cable Box &#8212; many of which do not have this feature). </p>
<p>It&#8217;s amazing that purchasing the newest technology &#8212; that new HD TV or PlayStation 3 &#8212; takes us back to the dark ages of captioning. It&#8217;s really sad: this is the digital age. </p>
<p>Call and e-mail to make our opinions be heard! Let&#8217;s speak up and make a difference.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Greetings!</p>
<p>The summer is just around the corner! We have had a LOOONNGG winter here in New England so its a treat to be able to enjoy outdoors for a change. I have had two shows since I last blogged. One was at Fulton, Missouri and the other at London, England. The first one was a <a href="http://www.williamwoods.edu/academics/behaviorialsocialsciences/InterpretingHandsUp.asp">William Woods University&#8217;s Hands Up Club </a> event. <span id="more-195"></span> They invited me and <a href="http://52productions.net/">Robert Love Jr </a> to do our one person show. Robert is an old friend of mine and his show was his first big gig so it was extra special for us to do show there.</p>
<p>William Woods University ASL interpreting program is one of twenty-three Interpreting Bachelor’s Degree Programs offered throughout the United States and Canada so there were a lot of ASL students and some deaf community members attending the show. My show went very well and I received a standing ovation. Their hospitality was awesome. I also met with several high school and college buddies while I was there so it was altogether a pleasure. No opportunity to take any pictures while I was there so there isn&#8217;t any to post here. </p>
<p>The following weekend, me and Damon headed out to London to do a show at their <a href="http://www.asli.org.uk">ASLI conference.</a> It was my first international show ever and boy, oh, boy&#8230; I was a nervous wreck! I don&#8217;t think I have ever been as nervous as I was when I did a show there. I had to learn <a href="http://www.british-sign.co.uk/">BSL</a> within 2 days so that I can do my show with some BSL in it. I received warm response but I can&#8217;t say that my show went very well. I managed to get some laughter and inspiring compliments from the audience but overall, I don&#8217;t think I was that funny. Hehe. Someone said that British humor is usually dry so all in all, it was a humbling experience. On the plus side, I get to see old friends such as Oliver Pouliot, Louise Stern and I made new British friends as well. :) </p>
<p>Here are some pictures of the show.</p>
<p><a href='http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/img_2255.jpg' title='img_2255.jpg' rel="lightbox[195]"><br />

<p>My next show will be at <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2008/03/12/csd-columbus-oh/">Columbus, Ohio.</a> Let&#8217;s hope I&#8217;m funny this time around. :)</p>
<p>Be well,<br />

<p>About the Play</p>
<p>Book by Joe Masteroff<br />
Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick<br />
Music by Jerry Bock<br />
Based on a play by Miklos Laszlo</p>
<p>&#8220;The perfect musical!&#8221; &#8211; Time Magazine</p>
<p>She Loves Me is the perfect musical &#8211; warm and funny, with what&#8217;s considered one of the most beautiful scores in the American theatre. Acclaimed since its 1963 premiere and rediscovered in a hit 1993 Broadway revival, She Loves Me has captivated audiences for decades.</p>
<p>This romantic comedy is the story of two lovesick, anonymous pen pals who work together during the day, blissfully unaware that they are writing to each other at night. An endearing tale of unlikely sweethearts and the eccentric colleagues who aid and abet them, She Loves Me is based on Parfumerie, the play that also inspired the Jimmy Stewart classic The Shop Around the Corner, and the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan film You&#8217;ve Got Mail.</p>
<p>Best known as the songwriting team behind Fiddler on the Roof, Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock&#8217;s credits include the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Fiorello!, The Apple Tree, Tenderloin, The Rothchilds, and Cyrano &#8211; The Musical. Joe Masteroff also wrote the book for the Kander and Ebb musicals Cabaret and 70, Girls, 70. She Loves Me is the first major musical production by the Huntington in six years, and the final directing assignment for Nicholas Martin in his role as Artistic Director. </p>

I got more pictures to share this time! :) I just did another show at Talladega, Alabama for the Birmingham Area Interpreter Training (BAIT)&#8217;s ASL Total Immersion Weekend at <a href="http://www.shocco.org">Shocco Springs</a>. I was doing my one-woman show as well as my &#8220;Art of Storytelling&#8221; 2 hour workshop. <span id="more-188"></span> </p>
<p>At first, I was kinda worried that my show might not fare well with some non-fluent ASL users but much to my surprise, I received a standing ovation instead! It is always comforting to know what kind of audience my show works well with. (Those who are not D/deaf, I mean. *wink*)</p>
<p>Anyhow, I definitely left Alabama with more than I first arrived. I had fun.</p>
<p>Here are some pictures taken over the weekend. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Greetings!</p>
<p>I hope you&#8217;ve had a pleasant Valentine&#8217;s Day. I sure did.</p>
<p>On Feb 9th, I performed my very first show for the year of 2008 at <a href="http://www.csdf.k12.ca.us/">California School for the Deaf, Fremont.</a> They were hosting an African American awareness day at their school where parents of African American deaf students came together to discuss/socialize/etc. Since I was on a break from the show (Nov to Feb), <span id="more-165"></span> I have had an opportunity to develop three new materials that I fleshed out at CSDF. I thought I did pretty well and as usual, we didn&#8217;t take any pictures of the show. You would think I ought to hire photographer! :) BUT! I did take a picture of us basking under the sun on the middle of CSDF campus. Who could blame us? All we got here in New England is snow storm, sleet rain, and frozen windows!!</p>
<p><img id="image164" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/img_2160.jpg" alt="img_2160.jpg" /></p>
<p>The minute we returned back to New England, we were tempted to relocate to California just because of their weather. :)</p>
<p>Nonetheless, I know a lot of you have been asking about The Rosa Lee Show DVD. We are still working feverishly on it and hope to release it by the end of May. *cross fingers* We&#8217;ll be making our announcement via our new website when its being launched. Keep checking us out!</p>
<p>On a final note, I want to thank the folks at CSDF for making my first show of 2008 a memorable one. The audience was awesome! I had a lot of fun. It was also wonderful to receive such complimentary and thoughtful comments from the CSDF students and few prominent deafies/codas such as <a href="http://www.ellasflashlight.com/">Ella Mae Lentz</a> and <a href="http://www.sherryhicks.com/">Sherry Hicks</a>. It was something. </p>
<p>Now, its off to Alabama I go. I hope to see you there!</p>
<p>Hugs,<br />
Rosa Lee</p>

A pioneer in her field, Laurie&#8217;s seemingly well-ordered life and career slowly become unhinged when she meets Woodson Bull, III (whose friends call him &#8220;Third&#8221;), an articulate and conservative student wrestler. Laurie and Third face off in a series of confrontations over politics, ethics, and Shakespeare, forcing her to reevaluate many of her long-held beliefs. Are the differences between us really as clear as we think?</p>
<p>Third is the final play from celebrated playwright Wendy Wasserstein, who received the Pulitzer Prize, and Tony, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk Awards for The Heidi Chronicles. Her other credits include An American Daughter, Uncommon Women and Others, Isn&#8217;t it Romantic?, and The Sisters Rosensweig, which the Huntington staged in 2005 to critical and popular acclaim.</p>
<p>TICKET PRICES: $30 &#8211; $75<br />
Last row balcony: $15<br />
Student Rush (2 hours before curtain with valid ID): $15<br />

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I don&#8217;t know about you but I don&#8217;t really like airports nor flying. Especially not when the security is elevated or when the person sitting next to me is hogging the armrest. I don&#8217;t enjoy having to deal with TSA folks barking orders at me, telling me to remove my belt, shoes, jacket, loose change, laptop, camcorder, and everything that&#8217;s shiny&#8230; <span id="more-148"></span>However, this past weekend I was reminded how its all worth it because I am able to spend time with my old friends from all over the country through my one-woman show. </p>
<p>I had an opportunity to perform at <a href="http://www.asdb.state.az.us/">Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind</a> in Tucson as their fundraising event for their International Deaf Studies program. I also had an opportunity to stay at my best friend&#8217;s home throughout the weekend. It sure beats the company of a hotel staff. :) Oh! I forgot to mention that I was sick as a dog over the weekend as well but I did manage to have a good time. :)</p>
<p>Before the show, my buddy took us to <a href="http://emol.org/tucson/gatespass/">Gates Pass</a> so that we&#8217;d catch the sunset. After watching the sunset, I was inspired enough to do my show the best I could in spite of my sluggish energy. Now, I think I ought to watch sunsets more often. :) As usual, I didn&#8217;t have any pictures of my performance because nobody seems to have the time to take some however, I&#8217;ll leave you with some snapshots.</p>
<p><img id="image144" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/img_1795.jpg" alt="img_1795.jpg" /></p>
<p>The mountains</p>

<p><img id="image147" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/img_1844.jpg" alt="img_1844.jpg" /></p>
<p>My college buddy and her daughter took me to a nearby zoo the day I flew back home. It was fun.</p>
<p><img id="image146" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/n715215619_384108_1173.jpg" alt="n715215619_384108_1173.jpg" /></p>
<p>Those three folks behind me were the ones that auditioned for the NOYBTV American Deaf Idol. Two of them happened to be my former roommates from RIT. :)</p>
<p>Arizona is my last show for 2007. My next show will be in February 2008. I hope to use my time from now til then to finalize my DVD, new website, and a new show before I get busy again. Currently, I am booked from February until October 2008. Could you believe its been 3 years already? Time flies when you&#8217;re having fun (without TSA folks, of course.)</p>
<p>Until then, happy holidays to you all.</p>
<p>Hugs,<br />

<p>I just got back from a weekend-long video shoot of <a href="http://www.d-pan.org">D-PAN&#8217;s</a> latest music video production in Detroit, Michigan. Their video should be released within 2-3 weeks from now so do keep an eye out for it. </p>
<p><span id="more-132"></span></p>
<p>There were three out-of-towners and four local performers involved in this shoot. It was wonderful getting to know them individually, especially after spending so many hours with them, reciting the same song over and over and over! :) We were also aware of how fortunate we were to work with a professional film crew whom have worked with so many prominent artists as Eminem, 50 Cents, Tori Amos, etc. It was fascinating on how they work as a team and how they carry out their artistic vision along with us deafies. They were all very generous, kind, and patient with us as most of us have never done this before so its such a wonderful experience.</p>
<p>Below are some pictures taken over the weekend that I thought y&#8217;all might enjoy. </p>

<p>Joel Martin, the money guy. He owns the studio and is one of Eminem&#8217;s publishers.</p>

<p>and finally, the cast. </p>
<p>There are alot more pictures that I prefer not to share in risk of spoiling the video when it comes out. Hope you will like the video as much as we enjoyed making it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Greetings!</p>
<p>I know it has been forever since I&#8217;ve posted an update about my show. I&#8217;ve been working on several projects as well as taking care of my mom but nonetheless, I thought I&#8217;d share with you some pictures of my recent performance at Wisconsin, hosted by <a href="http://www.deafe.org">Deaf Empowerment Inc.</a> I also provided a hour long workshop for children who attended the event. A NTID/RIT film crew also flew in from New York to film and interview me for their final version of <a href="http://www.netac.rit.edu/goals/menu.html">Achieving Goals</a> DVD series. It was fun.<span id="more-129"></span></p>
<p><img id="image125" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/img_1627.jpg" alt="img_1627.jpg" /></p>
<p>At Waverly Beach where the performance was held.</p>
<p><img id="image126" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/img_1628.jpg" alt="img_1628.jpg" /></p>
<p>The workshop was held outside along with the film crew. Beautiful!</p>
<p><img id="image127" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/img_1631.jpg" alt="img_1631.jpg" /></p>
<p>Damon wrapping up the show. We bought some awesome cables for the show.</p>
<p><img id="image128" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/img_1634.jpg" alt="img_1634.jpg" /></p>
<p>That was taken right after the show. Could you tell that I was exhausted? :) </p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-</p>
<p><i>Stuff to keep an eye out for: New (and better) website, The Rosa Lee Show DVD, and 2008-2009 show dates. </i></p>
<p>Thanks for stopping by!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thank God its Friday!</p>
<p>I just got back from a week-long business trip from California. I spent the first four days, working as an actress/sign model for <a href="http://www.dawnsign.com">Dawn Sign Press&#8217;</a>project called, &#8220;ASL at Work.&#8221; It was wonderful bumping into old (and new) faces such as <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1485626/">Antionette Abbamonte</a>, <a href="http://store.deafnation.com/product/4769/DVDs+and+CDs/Mark+Morales,+Storytelling+in+International+Sign+Language+CD-ROM+.aspx">Mark Morales</a>, <a href="http://www.kodawest.org/bio.html"> Lisa Hermatz</a>, <a href="http://www.chuckbaird.com/?page=gallery&#038;action=detail&#038;id=45">Danny Lucero</a>, and several others&#8230; <span id="more-124"></span> I was super impressed with how Dawn Sign have treated us. We all were well-rested, fed, and pampered enough to endure 10 hours of labor per day. It was a lot of fun.</p>
<p>When done, I flew out to San Francisco to do a show at <a href="http://www.rid.org">RID National convention</a>. There were approximately 1,500 patrons at the closing ceremony&#8211;my largest audience ever. Suffice to say, it was one helluva experiene for me (if not nerve-wrecking!). I had the most fun doing the show&#8212;the crowd was awesome. I wish I had some pictures to post it in here but I was too nervous to remember. I&#8217;m hoping to to get a copy of my show so that I can post some of my footages here.</p>
<p>Nonetheless, I&#8217;m back home with my family and am looking forward to a day rest so that I can tackle some of my projects that has been gathering dust for the past few months. *sigh*</p>
<p>I wanted to thank you all for your kind remarks and most of all, for your support. It makes all the small stuff seems worthwhile.</p>
<p>Be well,</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Howdy, Fans!</p>
<p>I just got back from a performance gig at <a href="http://www.aldeaf.org">Alabama Association of the Deaf</a> conference in Birmingham. While I was there, I was fortunate enough to be able to catch <a href="http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/WORLDAROUNDYOU/sep-oct2001/claudia-gordon.html">Claudia Gordon&#8217;s</a> workshop regarding emergency and safety within Deaf Community when natural disasters hit our homes. <span id="more-109"></span> It was inspiring to learn that she was the first black deaf woman who works as an Attorney Advisor for the <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/homeland/index.html">Homeland Security.</a> Awesome, eh? It is not everyday that we meet other deaf women of color who are pioneers in such careers like law. It goes to prove that any one of us can overcome our obstacles no matter how difficult they are.</p>
<p>OH! I also learned that Alabama Association of the Deaf is affiliated with Alabama Black Deaf Advocates. They have since worked together on several deaf and hard of hearing related issues within the state of Alabama. It is wonderful to see such partnership like that! and like <a href="http://clerccenter.gallaudet.edu/WORLDAROUNDYOU/sep-oct99/evon.html">Evon Black</a> had said during her energetic workshop that Alabama is a &#8220;state of art&#8221; and I have to agree. </p>
<p>As for the performance, I could only manage to get one single snapshot out of it and of course, with my luck, its not the most flattering picture but what can a girl do?</p>
<p><img id="image123" src="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/alabama.jpg" alt="alabama" /></p>

Patrick Graybil, Bill Ennis, Adrian Blue, Robert DeMayo, and Ivy Velez also provided their own 20-min piece throughout the evening. My piece was &#8220;Who&#8217;s on First?&#8221; with Janis Cole. We had a blast doing that skit (although, it was nerve-wrecking, mind-boggling, stomach-turning experience&#8230; just to remember all the punch lines!)<span id="more-103"></span></p>
<p>Below is a snapshot of the performance. </p>

<strong>Deadline: February 23, 2007</strong></p>
<p>VSA arts has partnered with the renowned Williamstown Theatre<br />
Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts to establish the VSA arts<br />
Apprenticeship for students with a disability, ages 19 – 24, who are<br />
interested in expanding their theater education and knowledge. The<br />
VSA arts Apprenticeship provides a talented student with a unique<br />
insight into the world of a professional theater.<span id="more-97"></span></p>
<p>Every summer, the Williamstown Theatre Festival Apprentice Program<br />
offers 70 promising students classes in acting, voice, and movement.<br />
Discussions and master classes with notable professionals are also a<br />
part of the apprentice experience. Apprentices also learn about the<br />
different aspects of running a professional theater company by<br />
working in each of the various departments at the Festival on a<br />
rotating basis. Many former apprentices have gone on to successful<br />
careers in the professional theater.</p>
<p>Attendance at the full term is required (June 13 – August 20, 2007).<br />
The Williamstown Theatre Festival is part of the Equity Membership<br />
Candidate program and EMC points can be obtained. College credit can<br />
be arranged through some academic institutions (contact your<br />
registrar for more information).</p>
<p>The selected VSA arts Apprentices will have all expenses covered by<br />
VSA arts, to include:<br />
• Application fee ($30)<br />
• Tuition, room and board ($3,500)<br />
• Round trip coach airfare to and from Williamstown, Massachusetts,<br />
including ground transportation<br />
• Travel, room and board for a personal care assistant, if required<br />
• Reasonable accommodation for the Apprentice&#8217;s disability</p>
<p>Submission Rules<br />
1. Apprentices must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents of the<br />
U.S.<br />
2. Apprentices must be students ages 19 – 24.<br />
3. Apprentices must attend the full term (June 13 – August 20, 2007).<br />
4. Everyone with an interest and the enthusiasm for acting and<br />
theater is encouraged to apply – every level of experience will be<br />
considered.<br />
5. There is no audition for this program.<br />
6. Apprentices are selected by an application and accompanying<br />
materials (listed below).<br />
7. Applications must be submitted with all accompanying materials and<br />
received by VSA arts with a postmark no later than February 23, 2007.<br />
8. A disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that<br />
substantially limits one or more major life activities. (An<br />
impairment is a physiological disorder affecting one or more of a<br />
number of body systems, or a mental or psychological disorder).<br />
9. With your submission, enclose a stamped, self-addressed #10<br />
envelope if you want to receive confirmation of receipt of your<br />
application package.<br />
10. VSA arts is not responsible for loss or damage to entries.</p>
<p>Submission Procedures<br />
You must submit the following materials to be considered for this<br />
apprenticeship:<br />
• Completed application form<br />
• A one-page personal statement describing your qualifications and<br />
interests in theater<br />
• Three letters of recommendation<br />
• A brief current resume of your education and theater experience<br />
• A recent photo or headshot</p>

<strong>Law &#038; Order episode &#8211; Need Deaf and ASL-using Extras!</strong><span id="more-95"></span></p>
<p>Grant Wilfley Casting is currently looking for extras for an upcoming<br />
episode of &#8220;Law &#038; Order Criminal Intent&#8221;. Our next episode, that starts<br />
shooting Monday February 12th, centers on the deaf community and will have<br />
several scenes where people using ASL are needed. We wanted to use as many<br />
real deaf people as possible, as well as those who are hearing and fluent in<br />
ASL. As of right now there are approximately 4 days somewhere between<br />
Monday, February 12th and Tuesday February 20th that I will need to have a<br />
core group of ASL signing individuals that are between the ages of 18 and<br />
25. The scenes vary from a theater rehearsal to a protest, all of which<br />
will have a group of people signing at various times. There are also other<br />
scenes that would need people between the ages of 18 and 45 for only one day<br />
of shooting. Unfortunately I do not yet have an exact date but will know<br />
shortly.</p>
<p>If anyone is interested please email Renee@GWCNYC.com or call at<br />
212-685-3537 ext 53514 (v). Please send a recent photo, age, and a<br />
way to contact you.</p>
<p>Also, please pass on this information to other people who might be<br />
interested in this opportunity and have them get in<br />
touch with Renee@GWCNYC.com. You do NOT need to be an actor to be considered.</p>

<p>Can you believe it? 2007 is just around the corner!? Soon, it will be time for us to renew our new years resolutions, re-vamp our already-failing-diet plans, and in my case, to get a new job. :) </p>
<p>As of next week, I will be relocating to Worcester, MA from Connecticut, which I know is not too much of a move, but it is a big deal to me. <span id="more-84"></span> </p>
<p>The downside of getting a new job is that it will not afford me much flexiblity as I would have liked. This means, no multiple shows in a month but instead, reduce it to one show a month. (Oh! Speaking of my new years resolutions, one of them is to update the <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/category/upcoming-events/"> &#8220;upcoming events&#8221;</a> link on my site. As you can see, it is noticably empty BUT! this does not mean that there are no upcoming shows or that nobody likes me anymore&#8230; (well, maybe that&#8217;s true&#8230;)</p>
<p>Starting 2007, there will be new show dates posted, new videos (old and new) and hopefully, a new DVD that will include my videos and live performances in it and lastly, a new poetry book. I know, I know&#8230; it has been a while but I&#8217;m getting there. </p>
<p>Do have a great holiday and be merry.</p>
<p>-Rosa Lee</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Greetings, folks!</p>
<p>I hope you find this website more user-friendly than my older one. Though, I have to admit, I enjoy flash-based websites better than simple text-based sites however, flash websites are not deaf-blind friendly. I wanted my website to be more accessible for everyone and so far, I am pleased. All thanks to <a href="http://www.damontimm.com">Damon Timm</a> for his hard work. <span id="more-66"></span></p>
<p>Currently, I am working on new additions to my R-show (mostly because my materials are starting to feel like a broken record). Below is my new project for the show. I&#8217;m excited to see the outcome as I want our Deaf and hard of hearing community members to be more involved with their artistic growth. Most of all, I want the community to feel inspired to pursue their own dreams. </p>
<p>Please click: <a href="http://www.rosaleeshow.com/2006/09/03/call-for-videos/">Call for videos!</a> to find out how to submit your video.</p>
